Man reportedly pushes four children in canal, jumps in himself in Rahim Yar Khan | Pakistan

RAHIM YAR KHAN: In an attempt to “escape poverty”, a man reportedly pushed his four children in Abbasia Canal in Kot Samaba and then jumped in Thursday night.

Police said the man attempted to commit suicide over domestic issues and unemployment.

According to rescue sources, operation was under way to recover the man and his children.

Later, one of the children was rescued from the canal, while search for the other three and the man was under way. However, it is feared the other four have died.

7-year-old Sania at the hospital after being rescued from the canal. 

Seven-year-old Sania was rescued from near Airport police station when a milkman heard her crying for help. He took her out of the canal and took her to the hospital.

Ghulam Yaseen, a resident of Haroonabad, had reached Kot Samama two days back to pick his children who had gone to the area to spend vacations at their maternal aunt’s house.

The missing children are between the ages of three and five years, while one of the three is six months old. It has yet to be ascertained where the children’s mother was.

Locals said if rescue teams had started work at night chances were high of people being rescued. However, rescue workers said they could not start the search operation in the dark of the night.
